The large old-fashioned filled roses are often quartered and have a green point in the middle. The highly fragrant flowers and changing pink color, sometimes darker, sometimes light pink to almost white, make the plant interesting.

The rose 'Jan Balis' is an interesting find by Ivan Louette, a spontaneous seedling of 'Duchesse de Montebello' found in the public rose garden of Chaumont-Gistoux. The large flowers are very double and cut into quarters with a green tip in the middle. They are pink, but depending on the weather, sometimes they turn a brighter pink, sometimes a light pink, almost white. Their scent of old roses is intense. The flowers are grouped up to 6 per branch.
The leaf is elliptical and medium green. It has an erect habit of up to 150 cm.
Named after the author of the exhibition catalog 'De roos in beeld', 'Images of the rose'. An exhibition held at the Royal Library in 1966.
